Fisheries Supervisor BP

Nature & Environment

Fishing inspectors with a federal licence monitor fish and crayfish stocks as well as the habitats of these animals. They check whether the regulations on water utilisation and water protection are being complied with. As cantonal employees, they are usually in charge of the waters in an area and are organs of the judicial police. Their contacts include employees of communes, official bodies and hydropower plants, anglers and professional fishermen as well as farmers. In some cantons, they run fish farms and hatcheries. They are on hand at any time of day or night in the event of emergencies such as sudden fish deaths. Waters are utilised in a variety of ways, for example through water extraction, energy or gravel extraction. Fisheries wardens set
