Orchard managers grow pome fruit, stone fruit and various types of berries. As specialists, they are familiar with cultivation techniques, tree care and plant protection. They are responsible for processing and marketing the harvest. As department heads or junior managers of a farm, they plan the orchards and their management in the most economical and environmentally friendly way possible. Orchard managers replant existing orchards or plan new crops. They assess possible locations based on natural conditions such as climate, location and soil conditions. They get an idea of the condition of existing trees. Then they decide which varieties to grow. In doing so, they take into account the processing and marketing possibilities
