They are responsible for the presentation of goods and optimal placement in the sales outlets, for the promotion (merchandising) of the products, purchasing and sales. General Merchandising Managers lead the employees in the departments, plan advertising activities, monitor compliance with the presentation, product range and quality principles as well as the employer's strategic orientation. As a rule, market analyses (sales, positioning, competition monitoring) are part of the job specification. They are also responsible for monitoring success. The job usually involves frequent travelling.
