Civil registrars record births, child registrations, marriages, name changes and deaths. They record these events in the computerised civil register Infostar, which is networked throughout Switzerland and connected to a central database. The civil registrar has contact with the public primarily during the preparatory procedure for the marriage and during the wedding ceremony, which they can organise as they wish. A personal visit is also required for the notarisation of child recognition or the submission of a declaration on the use of a name following the legal dissolution of the marriage.
