Therapy Dog Handler
Nature & EnvironmentTherapy dog handlers visit hospitals, psychiatric clinics, rehabilitation clinics, nursing and retirement homes, kindergartens, curative education schools, homes for the disabled, sheltered workshops, institutions for people in prison or palliative clinics with their own dogs. The professionals usually work on a voluntary basis. The visits are made in consultation with the management of the institution and the caring staff. The dog handlers have the necessary skills and empathy to guide the dog in such a way that its contact has a therapeutic effect on the disabled, ill or impaired person. Patients with head trauma, spinal cord injuries, amputations, strokes, neuromuscular problems, orthopaedic disorders and other conditions can be treated with dogs.
