Prophylaxis assistants SSO work mainly in private practices and dental clinics, less frequently in retirement homes and hospitals. They examine gums and plaque. Based on individual hygiene problems, they draw up an oral hygiene programme and communicate this to patients. They remove visible plaque above the gums, know the methods of professional teeth cleaning and advise patients on how to prevent dental damage.
