Consular Specialist

Most consular specialists from the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) work in consulates general or embassies and liaise with Swiss nationals living abroad. They assume the function of a residents' registration office and provide Swiss travellers in the host country with the necessary consular protection, for example in the event of accidents or imprisonment. They are also responsible for all administrative matters. They issue legalisations, handle visa applications, deal with citizenship issues and take care of civil status matters.
