Ship Captain

Captains are usually on the bridge of a ship and operate the steering system, engines and sometimes also the gearbox. Nautical instruments such as compass, radar, GPS, but also stopwatch, rev counter and specialised charts help them to stay on course. They keep a close eye on what is happening in the fairway. In the event of danger, they use the ship's horn or - depending on the situation - headlights, loudspeakers and the ship's radio. If necessary, they order additional members of the ship's crew. Captains organise boat trips with guests. The peak season is in summer, but cruises are increasingly being offered in winter too. They strictly adhere to specified ship courses, routes and timetables. Ships operated by private companies generally only undertake trips when there is a need.
