Specialist in Pathology

Specialists in pathology recognise and research the causes, development mechanisms and progression of diseases and look for suitable treatment methods and prevention options. Pathologists make a diagnosis on the basis of morphological examinations of tissues and cells. In their research work, they use various examination and observation methods, e.g. autopsies (post-mortem examinations). Specialists in pathology can also be involved in the training and further education of healthcare professionals and in informing and educating the public about health issues. Specialists in pathology with a focus on cytopathology also have specialist knowledge based on morphological examinations of cells.
