Experts in cytodiagnostics examine the cells for tissue changes or characteristics that may indicate tumour diseases or inflammation. The cells obtained from secretions such as urine, saliva or other body fluids such as fluid accumulations in the body cavities or cerebrospinal fluid are stained after the smears have been prepared and examined under the microscope. Experts in cytodiagnostics work independently under the responsibility of the cytopathology specialist.
