Artificial Insemination Technician

Nature & Environment

Insemination technicians carry out artificial insemination on cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. If livestock owners realise that one or more animals are in heat, they order an insemination technician. He then usually visits them within a day on his tour. Depending on the type of animal, insemination technicians carry a selection of frozen or fresh semen from various breeding animals. The animal owners select the one with the desired characteristics, such as a high milk or meat yield. In the barn, insemination technicians assess the animal's suitability for insemination and carry out the insemination in a professional and species-appropriate manner, using special pipettes, insemination catheters and other auxiliary equipment.
